Pictures - Rare

My thanks to Craig Wheeler
and to
Brenda Lynn of the Polo Museum and Hall of Fame
 (Seabiscuit and Foals)
that those new to racing may also relive the moment.

Azucar -- first winner of the Santa Anita Handicap in 1935.

No date appears but it is obviously a victory photo. The jockey looks very much
like Sonny Workman. If my hunch is correct and that is Sonny, this is probably the
winner's photo from the 1934 Washington Handicap at Laurel in late October of
that year. (The jock in the photo doesn't quite look handsome enough to be
George Woolf and I know that Azucar broke from the 2-hole in the 1935 Big Cap.)

I know FOR SURE it is Azucar!
Can you imagine winning the Santa Anita Handicap with a steeplechaser? (Laura H.)
