Swaps
A Time to Remember
March 1, 1952

.

As Frank Talmadge Phelps
wrote in the June 1962 Thoroughbred of California:

.Swaps won at distances from five furlongs to a mile and five furlongs,
under weights up to 130 pounds over surfaces rated from fast to muddy, at tracks from one-coast to the other; and rewrote the list of time records from a mile to 1 5/8 miles with six world marks, one American record and two track standards to this credit.

.

But, beyond even these remarkable accomplishments,
he gave his beholders a sense of exhilaration, of the eternal fitness of things - a lifting of the spirit such as can be achieved only by a master work of art,
whether fashioned by man or by nature.

The book pictured below is a glorious presentation of this remarkable, and dearly loved, horse. It is a beautiful book with slick paper pictures and is quality through and through. It is written by Barry Irwin and published by Eclipse Press (a division of The Blood Horse) and is available through them. It is number 14 of their extraordinary Legends series. Don't let this one pass you by.
